Key West Adventure

After about 30 years, at least, I was able to reunite with my famous stepmom, Sandy McKinney, who lives in Key West, Florida. She's just as full of spunk and metaphors as I always remembered. What a fire is there in her heart! You wouldn't guess she's 81 if you spoke with her...which I did for a bunch of delightful hours. (The kids were really zonked and slept in.)

We were able to catch up on a lot of family history and get some facts straight. This was a real treat for me. I consider family to be very important, and that we should all be loving and close and considerate of one another (the more diverse the better!). Sandy will be moving back to New Mexico soon, after sqeezing the maximum out of the Keys.

She told us the story of how her share of the booty from the discovery of a Spanish Galleon off the coast of the keys some years ago (I believe National Geographic Magazine did a story on this) was a large emerald. She sold it and bought her house, as well as a boat which she used for ten years to tour people up and down the Keys. Ship's Captain Sandy!

She has also been working for many years doing Spanish poetry translations. (You can Google her for more information on that.) One amazing lady!
