Visiting the Skuces

After our short visit with Anisa Skuce at her house in Victoria, BC, she drove us up to visit her parents, Bill and Houri, who live about an hour North. They were Baha'i pioneers to Costa Rica for many years and we haven't seen them for ages. Here's Julie and Bill's excited greeting:
Of course Anisa gets to see them often but the joy is always there!Houri is famous as the world's most efficient organizer and cook. She really went out of her way to prepare a fabulous Persian multi-course dinner for us. Yummy!
Carolyn Kornatz accompanied us on the trip with Anisa. She hadn't met the Skuces but had been hearing about them for a long time. She and Bill really hit it off and talked a lot about art together.And then fruit and deserts, like Persian candies, and dates and coffee and tea--endless goodies!
Bill gave us a tour of some of his artwork around the house. The portrait of Anisa below was made when she first graduated from art school.Later Bill worked as an art teacher at the Maxwell Baha'i School in BC and did a composite of some of his students as seen in the work below. Then, when he retired, Anisa took over his job.
Anisa and Carolyn had to return early while Julie and I stayed on with Bill and Houri for the rest of the afternoon. On the way back to Victoria they wanted us to see a famous Inn called the Sooke Harbour House. Part of what makes the place famous is the fabulous collection of art which the owner has placed throughout the building. Below are some of the sculptures and wall art. We spent the last evening with Herm and Carolyn Kornatz and are deeply grateful to them for their warm hospitality and kindness during our stay.
