Point Roberts-A Country of its Own

After leaving, again by ferry, from Swartz Bay, we were met in Twassen, BC by Fran Taillon who kindly drove up from her home in Point Roberts. The weird thing about Pt. Roberts is that, if you look on the map to see, it is like an independent state--not physically connected to the US!
Fran and her husband, Yazdi, moved there some years ago. Due to the complications of the location, which would have meant that we would have to rent a car in Canada, drive across the US border to go to their home in Pt. Roberts, visit for a few hours and then cross the border again and make the two hour drive (crossing back into the US again!) to Bellingham, Washington. Anyway, in spite of Franny having to keep an oxygen tank & breather hookup connected to herself in the car, she was willing to meet us at the ferry dock and drive us all the way to Bellingham. The idea was that we really wanted to reconnect with each other after so many years of separation. (Yazdi was on a trip somewhere so we wouldn't have been able to see him anyway.)

We originally knew Franny in San Francisco as Fran Fernandez. (Her previous husband, Larry Jordan, was part of a team of three of us who made the first Baha'i Youth teaching project outside the US in 1965. The the third member was Phil Lucas who unfortunately died recently. We three traveled up the Alcan Highway, a thousand miles of permafrost road from Dawson, Canada to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.) Franny always had an open house and many a Baha'i Fireside was held there.

So, we had a great time during our drive and subsequent lunch in Bellingham to catch up on our histories. It was really great seeing you again, Franny, and thank you for your kindness!
