Redwoods Tour

Barb and Dave suggested that on our drive south we should take the short Redwood Forest detour off of the main highway. It would take us through a wonderful park with lots of trails off into the woods. Shortly after entering the park we parked the car and took some short walks through these Redwood giants. This is an area of Northern California which is truly breathtaking! The forest is so silent and we felt so reverent that we scarcely made a sound walking up the trail.
There was a large redwood burl right next to the trail which was almost like a painting in the bark.

Walking quietly was almost like a prayer. After a while we got back in the car and continued on.
Shortly after we saw a sign mentioning something about an Elk pasture nearby. I'm thinking, "sure, what are the chances of actually seeing an Elk where they say they are?" But as soon as the clearing opened up to view there was a whole herd of them!
And further up the entry road to this area there were more, and very close...
Across from this pasture was an old farmhouse and right there in the tall grass was a large Coyote hunting mice:We discovered that this road continued all the way to the beach, so we continued. Julie just wanted to walk along the beach for a little while. Someone had placed a few driftwood sticks in a pattern along the path:and she found a "Philosopher's Stone"; a bit heavy, but we're taking it home with us.
An artful arrangement made by God:
